1So I was - pardon the upcoming pun - lucky enough to attend the red carpet premiere of The Lucky One at Event Cinemas Marion on Thursday night.
My colleague and I left work at 4pm and on the way saw a large group of girls waiting outside the Rendezvous Hotel where Zac was staying. I’m guessing they had been waiting there for hours trying to get a glimpse of him!
The premiere was nuts. I have never seen anything like it. Though I must say everything was organised really well and it seemed to all go quite smoothly. With all the cameras flashing and the big film signs and red carpet, it really did feel like a touch of Hollywood had hit our city. When Zac came out it was insane - the screaming! He was great though, he spent a lot of time with the crowd and posed for photos. I spoke to a few disappointed girls after who had waited for hours but didn’t get to interact with him, but I guess not everyone can walk away with an autograph.
So, a few of my thoughts:
- Zac looks almost plastic, like a Ken Doll. He’s a very genetically blessed guy that’s for sure. I was right near him, close enough to see his spit zoom past a few times! He’s probably the most famous person I have ever met, so it felt very strange!
- Taylor Schilling is amazing. I think I have a girl crush on her now, she is just so beautiful, so nice, down to earth and she seemed genuinely smitten with Adelaide.
- Scott Hicks is just a lovely, lovely guy and it is clear he hasn’t forgotten his roots and loves his hometown.
- The film was good - slow at the start, a killer last half hour, but it’s no Notebook.

You know how sometimes the music that is out is not doing it for you and you are just craving a new song to fall in love with?
Well, just like real love, the minute you stop searching it comes to you. I was recently sent Melbourne indie pop five piece Buckley Ward’s album So Pretend and it is just perfect.
I’ve found everything I need in Exes and Oh’s, a heartachingly beautiful track with a harmonic chorus that I just cannot get over. The lyrics, the tune, everything. Simply awesome.

Anyone going to Oz Comic-Con?
It’s held at Adelaide Showground this weekend and will feature a heap of stars, including Disney Legend Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy and Pluto) and Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Unfortunately the legendary comic book writer Stan Lee is only attending the Melbourne Oz Comic-Con, which will be held in late June. Organisers say that is the only time Lee could make it to Australia. I just wonder whether Adelaide’s would have also been scheduled for June/July, had the showground not been booked out with the Swimming Pool & Spa Show, Master Builders SA Building & Home Improvement Show and the Adelaide Roller Derby. So I’m guessing that’s why the event is launching in Adelaide first because, let’s face it, Melbourne is the bigger city and that’s going to get priority for the bigger names. Anyway, I am not sure if this is the case,that’s just my two cents. I’d love to go and check it out this weekend. Anyone going?
Zac efron is coming to Adelaide.
Zefron (that name cracks me up), Taylor Schilling and Scott Hicks will be here on Thursday, April 12, at Event Cinemas Marion to promote their new movie The Lucky One. Start counting down the days all you fans out there. Bet those teenage girls cant wait to see mr hicks…oh, I guess zac too.
#NowPlaying - To & Fro - Echo and the Empress
I’m sitting here working on a story about Echo and the Empress, two indie music artists from Adelaide who have just been nominated in the Pop Song category in the 11th Annual Independent Music Awards. Being an international competition, this is huge news for the step sisters, who only released their first album last year. They’ve been nominated for their song Balloon, a beautiful, melodic tune which is perfect for sunny Sunday afternoons like this. I’m also loving To & Fro, which I’m listening to right now. The full story will be in next week’s Messenger, but for now have a listen to the harmonic sounds of Echo and the Empress.

Yes, first it was Xzibit hitting good ol’ Pooraka and now Mr Ice Cube is coming to Thebarton Theatre on April 18.
Now if only Ice T would come too..
